Project Info:
Brief: Direct to market student accommodation scheme nestled in the shadow of the rail viaduct over west Durham City.
Design: Providing a total of 223 studio and cluster bedrooms in three discreet blocks, the buildings form two courtyards that create ideal external study and resting spaces within the development and allow for the creation of addresses that reduce long corridors and a single big block of accommodation.
The design uses typical Durham brick with highlights of colour in the glazing and uses the rooflines and gables of the blocks to echo the roofscape of neighbouring streets. Already home to many postgraduate and foreign students from Durham University the central location is proving to be very popular.
